That summertime feeling

You are the bright blue sky
And the deep green sea
You are a vast ocean
The drowning place of a thousand little 'I's.

Your Best at Every Age

I made a pledge to myself that I would grow old gracefully and not wear mini-skirts or shop at Forever 21 when I was clearly well past the age to do either. It pains me to see older women (and some men) in Hollywood with their pillowy faces distorted by attempts to stop the march of time. I can’t fathom why anyone would pay to look that way. But it’s easy to make promises and judgments when youth is on your side.

When that first gray hair popped up I obsessed over it for days. Do I leave it or pluck it out? When the first lines appeared around my eyes I practiced holding my face in a wide-eyed surprised look which made them disappear. Soon there were sunspots which required cover-up, and more gray hair. Now I look in the mirror and see where this face is going. And I don’t like it. But I hate breaking my promises. So I’m going to let those grays keep coming. And I’m going to keep working on the best version of myself at each age I will be blessed to achieve. It'll just take me a little extra time to get ready in the morning.
